If you aren’t familiar with Tidbits these were tampers more economically priced featuring the same quality as Ming-Kahuna, and, by and large, as much as possible, the same artistry. How were they different? Well, they were shapes that were low-risk, relatively simply and quickly produced, and were often less than three inches in size. As many of my regular tamps are sub three inches, I’d have to say that size is certainly not so much a defining factor. But, that said, they do tend to be smaller than other tamps, but yet perfectly functional in all but the deeper bowls. They were generally in the $65 range.
After a time I began to feel that the Tidbit line of tamps wasn’t a success. Now, looking back at the number of Tidbits sold, I have absolutely no idea why I felt that way. Many, many were acquired. Some were acquired by folks to give as gifts. Most were bought by the buyer for his/her own enjoyment. It was a great way to try a Ming without the necessity of a larger investment. One thing is clear, there was a lot of them sold. It’s funny how perceptions are colored until one looks at the bottom line.
So, Tidbits will now again be available. The only difference will be that these pieces will not have logos. Logos are a major pain in the rear to deal with and inserting logos is my number one reason for a piece failing. Also, listings on the site will be much more brief, if only the basic information. In exchange for not having to deal with logos, and missing out on my usual verbiage, I am going to set the prices for Tidbits lower than ever. Believe me, the shape of the tamp will make it undeniably a Ming. As of right now I am looking at a price centered around $49, give or take a few bucks depending on the piece, which, as with any other tamp, includes shipping. Despite an occasional variance, most Tidbits will be $49
So there you have it! You’ll be seeing Tidbits on the site soon, and certainly at the Chicago Show. I’m not certain how many there will be to start with, but they will be offered regularly. I will also being moving Clippers into the Tidbit category. While I have technically discontinued Clippers, interest in them has remained high. Tidbits will provide a great way to continue to offer them.
The bottom line is that I keep ending up with these cool little tampers and I don't need them just sitting on my shelf.
Please note that Tidbits are not "seconds". I do not sell seconds. Each and every tamper out of my shop meets the same standards, or it does not leave.
